It's time we all started taking our turn
This week my good friend Dave sent me this amazing and hilarious video about a new road sign. In the video the trade-off between safety and efficiency (carbon footprint) is discussed. Although it seems a little far fetched, I’m sure we’ll see something like it in the future.

Pedestrian Perils: An Unfortunate January in Toronto
Yesterday I almost became one of Toronto’s next pedestrian victim’s. At the intersection I was crossing there was an advanced green for the oncoming traffic. I waited until the advanced green ended, looked to see the walk signal, looked to see if there were any more cars coming and then proceeded forward. I looked down [...]

If you thought Traffic Congestion in Toronto was bad …
Last night I got home from work and decided to go for a long but leisurely ride. I jumped on my bike and headed west along the waterfront trail towards Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, etc …and ended up weaving my way through Mississauga. I was absolutely shocked by the traffic of the Toronto bedroom community. It [...]

It Takes A Little More Planning …
This passed weekend was the Honda Indy here in Toronto. It draws many people not just for the car racing but for all the other activities around it. Toronto once again did a fabulous job in creating awareness about the event, getting more than just those who like car racing involved and cleaning up the [...]

The Busiest Highway in the World
Highway 401 – If it’s daylight it’s probably congested. The busiest section of the 401 runs east-west through Toronto and sees almost 500,000 cars on peak days (in comparison LA’s 405 sees about 380,000 cars per day), but the highway extends from the Detroit River in Windsor all the way through to the Ontario-Quebec border. [...]

A snapshot of my blog
Wordle.net what an awesome tool. Thanks to my bf for showing me this. It takes a group of words or a url and creates a canvas of words. It’s a great summary of my blog to date.

The Need For Good Infrastructure: Part 2
Earlier this week I wrote about the need for good infrastructure with respect to the trucking industry. The other part of the equation, about 70% of the road users, is commuters. For all the people that commute to work everyday on the highways, having a functioning highway system is paramount. The Ministry of Transportation of [...]

The Countdown is On
I was recently part of a discussion about the countdown signals at intersections. Designed for pedestrian’s they count down the seconds for one to cross the street. Some intersections are based purely on a countdown clock (i.e they start a fixed time and countdown to zero), some are based on sensors in the road (i.e when [...]

BBS? A more Efficient Way to Travel
BBS, what’s that? Bus-Bypass Shoulders. What that means is that during peak congestion hours on highways buses have the right of way on the shoulders and can pass slower moving traffic. Back in August I wrote an article for Traffic Technology International on the benefits of BBS. (It can be found here). Last week I had [...]

Tom Vanderbilt's Traffic
A Must Read for Anyone who has Been Stuck in Traffic Before Late August the Globe and Mail published an article Zoom, Zoom, Crash, Bang a comment by Margaret Wente discussing why men and women are inherently different drivers. What she also mentioned was Tom Vanderbilt’s new book Traffic. After reading the article I couldn’t [...]
